Belarus and Russia are planning new projects in the space sector. This was announced to reporters by Vladimir Karanik, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences, before a gala concert dedicated to the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia at the Palace of the Republic, Soyuz.by has learned.

Vladimir Karanik noted that Belarus and Russia are cooperating very closely and actively in the scientific sphere. Over the past 30 years, much has been done to create a unified scientific, technological and innovation space, with the number of projects reaching into the hundreds.

Currently, three Union State programs are in operation, comprising dozens of initiatives. These involve continued work in space, biotechnology and microelectronics — areas that are most in demand in both countries. Joint efforts are also underway in fields such as inter-academy exchanges, the participation of Belarusian scientists in mega-science projects, nuclear energy projects and space technology projects.

According to the Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences, partnership with Russia in space enables even a small country like Belarus to gain access to human spaceflight and Earth remote sensing satellite programs. Cooperation is also developing successfully in areas such as optics, microelectronics, lasers and biotechnology.

Vladimir Karanik stressed that the scientific potentials of the two countries are being effectively combined, which allows them to work for the benefit of both nations, enhance the technological sovereignty of the states and move forward together.
