The book "The Road to May 1945. We Need One Victory" was presented in Brest. This publication by the Standing Committee of the Union State is dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, according to a Soyuz.by correspondent. On the eve of this important date for the people of Belarus and Russia, a book was published that reveals new details about the heroic deeds of the Soviet people. The book was presented on June 20 at the Brest Fortress Defense Museum. The presentation was attended by Sergei Glazyev, the State Secretary of the Union State. Anatoly Markevich, Head of the Standing Committee of the Union State in Minsk, read out the welcoming speech.

Sergei Glazyev, State Secretary of the Union State, noted that being in this sacred place for every Belarusian and Russian evokes special feelings: feelings of pain, bitterness, and misfortune that the entire Soviet people experienced in June 1941, and at the same time, immense pride and deep gratitude for the fathers, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers who stood shoulder to shoulder to defend their homeland and won the Great Victory at the incredible cost of their lives.

"What a difficult road it was to May 1945: through battles, courage, the partisan movement, and large-scale strategic operations that resulted in the defeat and expulsion of the enemy from our country. It was here, in the Brest Fortress, that the first shots of the defenders were fired in the early hours of the war, and they became a symbol of courage and heroism," the Secretary of State said in his address.

The book tells the story of the heroic deeds of the Belarusian people, who are rightfully known as the "Partisan Republic." During the war, 374,000 people fought against the enemy on this land. Representatives of many different nationalities and ethnic groups fought in the Belarusian forests. The book also tells the story of brave, strong, simple, and tired people who were selflessly devoted to their land and their people.

Sergei Glazyev emphasized that this book is a message to the youth of not only Belarus and Russia, but also the entire world: come, see, and remember who liberated the planet from fascism more than 80 years ago and is doing everything today to prevent a new world war. The Secretary of State also expressed gratitude to the authors of the book and all those who cherish the historical truth about the Great Patriotic War.
