Belarus and Russia intend to set up a special committee on matters of standardization and quality, BelTA learned from Director of the Belarusian State Institute of Standardization and Certification (BelGISS) Aleksandr Skuratov at a press conference.

The creation of a special committee in charge of standardization and quality is being considered within the framework of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. “The corresponding priority areas of work have been determined. Those are not only classic branches of the manufacturing sector but new technologies as well. Those are technologies in the field of renewable energy sources, additive technologies, electronics and radio electronics, digital technologies, artificial intelligence, innovative machine tool building and instrument making, driverless vehicles. Those are the branches that have been incorporated into the strategy on scientific and technological development of the Union State for the period till 2035. There are plans to work out standards for them as well,” Aleksandr Skuratov noted.

The official went on saying: “We have made up our minds about the notion of Union State standards and how they will be developed. The first step was the work on analyzing the standards that contain identical requirements and represent a bridge for barrier-free trade. Secondly, plans have been made for a series of Union State programs. A plan on energy efficiency and energy saving is in the pipeline. We’ve started working and intend to finish working out a plan on developing standards in the field of microelectronics this year. We see various important areas in the Union State where we need to reconcile the requirements.”

Aleksandr Skuratov added that matters of standardization in the field of artificial intelligence are being seriously discussed and worked on in Belarus.
