Вelarus and Russia show economic cohesion and strive to ensure technological sovereignty, State Secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia Dmitry Mezentsev said as he commented on the trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, BelTA has learned.

“The practical results of large-scale joint work within the Union State show that today our countries are able to solve the most complex issues, negotiating on equal terms, taking into account each other's national interests, ensuring the solution of tasks consistently defined by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko,” Dmitry Mezentsev said.

In his words, the new practice of economic integration of the two countries, united by the Union State Treaty, was determined by the Supreme State Council of the Union State on 4 November 2021, when 28 Union State programs were approved. “This is a interconnected, balanced strategic plan of interaction for the years ahead,” the state secretary noted.

“Expansion of cooperation in industry, agriculture, petrochemicals, services and successful interaction at the regional level fundamentally ensure the progressive growth of mutual trade between Belarus and Russia. In H1 2023 bilateral trade went up by 16.9% compared to the same period of 2022, with the volume of exports of goods from Belarus to Russia increasing by 37.7% over the period,” Dmitry Mezentsev stated.

“Today the parties are implementing 16 approved joint projects in industry. We are discussing joint initiatives in aircraft construction, production of equipment and components for automotive and agricultural machinery, as well as in a number of other areas. The work on strengthening the common foundations of economic integration continues,” the state secretary said. “In 2022-2023 four important intergovernmental agreements have been signed. These are documents on a common industrial policy; on the recognition of technological operations in the Union State; on the development of microelectronic technologies, design and production of electronic component base and electronic engineering; on the development of machine tool industry.”

“At the new stage of economic integration the two countries united by the Union State Treaty show cohesion, achieve greater competitiveness, strive to ensure national technological sovereignty. Our relations boast a special most important resource, which is trust, mutual understanding and open dialogue,” Dmitry Mezentsev concluded.
