Lukashenko, Putin discuss multiple topics over phone

The presidents of Belarus and Russia had a very intensive phone conversation on 2 April. Among other things it covered congratulations, problems, tasks, and common goals, the press service of the Belarusian leader told BelTA.

The phone call was prompted by the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko and President of Russia Vladimir Putin exchanged official greetings in the morning and personal ones in the afternoon. They also once again underlined that both countries are interested in the progressive development of integration processes and the reinforcement of multidimensional cooperation. This is why the conversation lasted for half an hour and covered not only celebrations but routine matters as well, the press service said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin touched upon all the main topics and matters of current interest. They also discussed the implementation of previous agreements.

The epidemic situation was one of the key topics Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin talked about. Nowadays focus has been shifted to population vaccination and vaccine production. It is a positive example of tight cooperation between Belarus and Russia, an area where Belarus-Russia cooperation is most productive, the press service said.

Later on Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin touched upon the domestic political situation in Belarus and Russia. The situation concerning Belarus was mentioned as well as external threats, which have been rather specific from the western direction lately, in particular, from Poland and the USA.

The positive agenda included the organization of events within the framework of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, including a regular session of the Supreme State Council of the Union State of Belarus and Russia and the 8th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia. The forum will take place in Moscow Oblast in July and will be dedicated to Belarus-Russia R&D cooperation.

Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin also talked about the operation of the Standing Committee of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. Ways to enhance its role and improve its performance were mentioned.

The two presidents also discussed future steps to resume full-scale transportation between the two countries, particularly transportation by rail. Taking into account the need to return the economy and people back to normal lives Belarus looks forward to the lifting of all restrictions on crossing the Belarusian-Russian border and to the resumption of all kinds of passenger service soon. The point was emphasized, the press service said.

The overall development of trade and economic cooperation was also discussed. Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin also discussed interaction of central mass media and work in the sphere of information security, the press service said.
