Belarus is Russia's closest strategic partner and ally, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a joint meeting of the collegiums of the foreign ministries of Belarus and Russia in Moscow, BelTA has learned.

"Belarus is our closest strategic partner and ally. This unique format of joint meetings of the two fraternal countries is a clear confirmation of this," Sergey Lavrov said.

The foreign ministries of Belarus and Russia hold joint meetings of the collegiums on a regular basis. This practice was established in 2000. According to the minister, this work has proven its worth and effectiveness. Other ministries of Belarus and Russia also adhere to this format of interaction. "This is an important component of the Union State building," the Russian diplomat said.

Sergey Lavrov recalled that Belarus and Russia closely coordinate approaches in foreign policy, jointly promote common interests on the internaitonal stage, and support each other in international organizations.
