Krutoi pays tribute at Piskaryovskoye Cemetery on Leningrad siege anniversary

Head of the Belarus President Administration Dmitry Krutoi took part in a flower-laying ceremony at the Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery, BelTA has learned.

The ceremony marked the 85th anniversary of the start of the siege of Leningrad, one of the most tragic and heroic chapters of the Great Patriotic War. The ceremony was also attended by Belarusian Consul General in St. Petersburg Nikolai Rogozhnik, St. Petersburg Vice Governor Kirill Polyakov, and Chairman of the St. Petersburg Committee for External Relations Evgeny Grigoriev. Flowers were laid at the foot of the Motherland monument, the memorial sign to students of Leningrad’s vocational schools, and the Eternal Flame.
Piskaryovskoye Cemetery is the largest memorial cemetery dedicated to the victims of war. Buried here are those who defended the city under the harshest conditions of the siege, fighting hunger, cold, bombings, and constant air raids. The memorial is a landmark site, a symbol of courage and resilience of the people. The cemetery holds the remains of people of many nationalities from the former Soviet republics.
