Gomel hosts meeting of working group on hydrometeorology of Belarus and Russia

The 19th meeting of the working group on interaction of interested branches of Belhydromet and the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Central Administration for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring" (FGBU UGMS) is being held in Gomel from September 4 to 5, 2025. The purpose of the meeting of hydrometeorology specialists from Belarus and Russia is to summarize the implementation of previous decisions of the working group and discuss plans and prospects for further cooperation.
During the meeting, representatives of Belhydromet and Roshydromet consider current issues in the field of hydrometeorology, related areas and in the work of the hydrometeorological services of the Union State. Participants discuss environmental, hydrological, meteorological issues, climate change, hydrometeorological support for economic sectors.
The topics under consideration include the impact of climate change on the state of atmospheric air and the hydrological regime of rivers, atmospheric air monitoring, the use of Russian software in hydrological calculations when coordinating flood zone boundaries, Russian experience in the implementation and operation of acoustic profilers, dangerous hydrological phenomena on rivers, and the organization of standardization work.
The Belarusian and Russian hydrometeorological services have been implementing joint programs for several decades. During this time, it has been possible to integrate the work of both services: unified observation tools, forecasting methods, and data analysis have been created. Scientific research conducted by the hydrometeorological services of Russia and Belarus, including within the framework of the Union State programs, contributes to the growth of scientific potential and the further development of mutually beneficial cooperation.
Regular meetings of specialists from Belarus and Russia bring the work of the hydrometeorological services of Belarus and Russia to a new qualitative level in the scientific and technical sphere, in the preparation of forecasts and the exchange of climate information.
