Today, the opening ceremony of the first stage of the Union State Spartakiad for Children and Youth took place in Lida. This large-scale sporting event commemorated the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and brought together schoolchildren from rural areas of Belarus and Russia. State Secretary of the Union State Sergei Glazyev addressed the participants, organizers, and guests with a welcoming speech. Leonid Azhevsky, Advisor to the Permanent Committee of the Union State in Minsk, read the speech, reports Soyuz.by.

"I heartily congratulate you on the opening of the Spartakiad for schoolchildren from Belarus and Russia living in rural areas – a vibrant and spectacular sporting event," he noted in his address.

The Secretary of State emphasized that holding such events has become a good tradition within the Union State. He also expressed confidence that the organizers had created all the conditions for holding the competition at a high level.
