State Secretary of the Union State Sergey Glazyev, speaking on the sidelines of the XIII Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia, during which the first meeting of the Committee on Standardization and Quality of the Union State took place, outlined the tasks facing the new supranational body.

"The Committee on Standardization and Quality of the Union State is called upon to address many important tasks for the functioning of our common economic space," noted Sergey Glazyev. "First and foremost – it is the creation of a barrier-free environment. We operate within a common market where uniform EAEU regulations, sanitary, veterinary, and phytosanitary norms apply, which are binding for all. At the same time, there is a significant number of areas of activity that are not regulated by the legal framework of the Eurasian Economic Union, and barriers may arise there," said the State Secretary of the Union State.

In his view, the new Committee faces the task of timely harmonization of national standards, with a subsequent transition to joint standardization within the Union State, as well as influencing the formation of standards in the EAEU, the CIS, and globally.

Sergey Glazyev named the second important area of the new Committee's work as protecting the market from substandard products.
