Foreign ministries of Belarus, Russia preparing joint report on human rights in certain countries

The ministries of foreign affairs of Belarus and Russia are preparing the third joint report on the human rights situation in certain countries. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared the information following a meeting between Irina Velichko, Head of the Main Directorate for Multilateral Diplomacy of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Alimov on 7 May, BelTA has learned.

The parties had a thorough exchange of views on a wide range of topical matters concerning the international human rights agenda. Priority attention was paid to the consolidation of efforts at relevant UN platforms as well as interaction within the OSCE humanitarian dimension. Readiness was confirmed to continue joint work in the format of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations. The need was emphasized to better coordinate actions of the CSTO and CIS member states, including in the field of promotion and protection of human rights.
“The progress in preparing the third joint report of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation ‘On the human rights situation in certain countries’ was discussed. Matters of providing mutual support in elections to the UN bodies of limited membership, including the UN Human Rights Council, were touched upon as a separate topic,” the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs added.
