Belarusian embassy lays wreath at Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow

Other attendees at the ceremony included State Secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia Sergei Glazyev, Member of the Board (Minister) of the Eurasian Economic Commission Aleksandr Subbotin Aleksandr Subbotin, along with representatives of integration bodies, the Russian parliament, the Belarusian diaspora, diplomats, and various public and political figures.

The participants of the ceremony also laid flowers at the Minsk Hero City and Brest Hero Fortress commemorative plaques, located next to the Eternal Flame on the Alley of Hero Cities by the Kremlin Wall.

The ceremony concluded with a march of the guard of honor.

Speaking to journalists after the ceremony, Yuri Seliverstov noted that Belarus upholds the tradition of honoring the memory of those who fought for Victory. “This is one of the central memorials in Russia, so of course, we could not fail to uphold this tradition here,” he said. “Given that there were major holidays and large-scale events, we did this a bit later. The memory of the fallen deserves to be honored again and again, and not just on 9 May.”

The ambassador revealed that both of his grandfathers, along with his grandmother on his mother’s side, fought on the battlefields of the Great Patriotic War. “I found them here in the Russian databases. Their orders and medals are kept at our home in Minsk. But it was still heartwarming that after so many years, you can find a photo of your family member in a database and even read some excerpts from their award citations,” he said.
