Belarus, Russia urged to repair ties disrupted by pandemic

Belarus and Russia should repair the ties that have been disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko made the statement after the plenary session of the 7th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia on 29 September, BelTA has learned.

Roman Golovchenko said: “Essentially nothing impedes [the development of Belarus-Russia relations]. The thing is we have to establish a dialogue, have to resume the ties that have not been severed but have grown weaker a bit since March due to the pandemic.”
In his opinion, direct personal contacts and live communication are important for advancing Belarus-Russia cooperation. “Maybe not everything can be done by means of modern means of communications. Although we actively use this format, nevertheless, we need live interpersonal communication. We have to sit down and talk about things first. Then problems are likely to be solved more easily,” the prime minister believes.
Roman Golovchenko pointed out that transport service between Belarus and Russia had been resumed in a limited format for now – only flights. “But today during the forum we've agreed we will continue working to lift all the restrictions, certainly bearing in mind the evolving epidemic situation in order to avoid worsening the state of affairs, god forbid,” he explained.
