Belarus, Russia agree on statistical cooperation plan for 2027-2029

The National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus (Belstat) and Federal State Statistics Service of Russia (Rosstat) signed a joint action plan on harmonizing statistical methodology for 2027-2029, BelTA learned from Belstat’s press service.

The document outlines strategic areas of cooperation for the next three-year period. 

Chairwoman of the National Statistical Committee Inna Medvedeva highlighted the symbolic importance of the current year. “These marks three decades of building a common statistical space between our two countries. Over these years of productive work, we have come a long way, and all our achievements have been made possible thanks to mutual respect and readiness to cooperate, that is, constructive and strong partnership relations between Belstat and Rosstat,” she said.

Inna Medvedeva also emphasized the strategic importance of the Statistical Council in furtherance of the functioning of the Union State. “Maximum comparability of high-quality statistical information is the foundation for building a common economic space and for an objective assessment of integration processes,” she said.

The document was signed in Nesvizh during the 22nd meeting of the Statistical Council of the National Statistical Committee of Belarus and Federal State Statistics Service of Russia.Head of the Federal State Statistics Service of Russia Sergei Galkin described the meeting as a valuable platform for exchanging experience, technologies and harmonizing approaches.

“We have outlined a work plan for the coming years. The key task is data harmonization so that our states speak the same language. We follow advanced international recommendations and jointly develop solutions, including coordinated efforts within international organizations,” Sergei Galkin said.

The meeting also focused on key areas of digital transformation in statistics, modernization of official statistical systems and the integration of alternative data sources into statistical production, including mobile positioning data.
