MFA confirms death of Belarusian tourist in Russia’s Kabardino-Balkaria

The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that a Belarusian tourist died in Russia’s Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms with deep regret the information about the death of a citizen of the Republic of Belarus in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic of the Russian Federation,” the statement reads.

According to Russian rescue services, the Belarusian citizen was hiking near the Terskol Waterfall when he fell approximately 30 meters after losing his grip on the rock face. The injuries sustained in the fall were fatal.

The Belarusian Embassy’s branch in Krasnodar is providing all necessary assistance to the family and remains in constant contact with the relevant Russian authorities.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urgently reminds all citizens to formally register their planned routes for mountain climbing and hiking in advance. All such activities must be undertaken exclusively with professional guides and instructors, using appropriate safety equipment.

The ministry extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
