Upon the invitation of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Belarus has become a member of the regional group, which will make its own contribution to the development of regional initiatives and recommendations on fighting COVID-19 and restoring economic and social life after the epidemic ends. Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei took part in the first session of the regional group on 30 April. The session was held as a videoconference.

In his address to participants of the meeting Vladimir Makei underlined the importance of stepping up interaction between regional associations for the sake of preparing a collective response to COVID-19, for mobilizing joint efforts and establishing partnerships in order to resolve the problems the spread of the coronavirus infection has caused. Such interaction could be used as an example of how the Belarus-sponsored initiative to build partnerships between integration associations (or “the integration of integrations”) should be implemented in practice.

The videoconference session of the high-level regional group on working out policy for Europe and Eurasia was chaired by WEF President Borge Brende. Heads of concerned government agencies and administrations of European and Eurasian countries, heads of major businesses, and representatives of leading think tanks also took part in the session.

It is the first time Belarus has taken part in this format of WEF initiatives.
