Union State MPs to discuss common electricity, gas markets

The development of common electricity and gas markets by Belarus and Russia will be discussed at a meeting of the Union State PA Commission on Energy in Vitebsk on 14 February, BelTA learned from the PA press service.

“The participants of the meeting will review the progress made in the implementation of Decree No.6 of the Supreme State Council of the Union State of 4 November 2021 “On the main areas of the implementation of the provisions of the Union State Treaty for 2021-2023” in terms of the Union State program on the common electricity market and the Union State program on the common gas market,” the press service said.

Attending the event will be Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich, First Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Pavel Sorokin, representatives of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee and the government of Smolensk Oblast.

The MPs will discuss interregional cooperation between Vitebsk Oblast and Smolensk Oblast. “As part of patriotic education of the younger generation, the MPs will consider a new event of the Union State to honor the memory of Hero of the Soviet Union Andrei Kizhevatov, defender of the Brest Fortress during the Great Patriotic War,” the press service said.
