Trade between Belarus and Nizhny Novgorod Oblast of Russia exceeded $520 million in January-September 2023, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said at the 18th meeting of the Business Cooperation Council of the Republic of Belarus and Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, BelTA has learned.

"Taking into account the momentum in relations between the Republic of Belarus and Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, the results we have achieved and the prospects for closer cooperation, I supported the proposal from Gleb Sergeevich [Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Governor Gleb Nikitin] to head the Belarusian part of the Council and raise its status. This is not just a formality. The fact that I have made such a decision [now the parts of the Council are headed by the prime minister of the Republic of Belarus and the governor of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, respectively], implies additional responsibility for those who implement the agreements we reach," Roman Golovchenko said.

The head of government noted that in such conditions, there can be no other choice but to demonstrate steady growth and to map out new avenues of interaction.

"The Council has already done serious work and laid the foundation on which we rely. All the necessary documents have been adopted. They include a program for the development of cooperation and an action plan for 2021-2023. Today, I hope, we will sign an action plan for 2024-2026. These document translate into bilateral trade. Last year, it exceeded $720 million; the flows were balanced. Trade in January-September 2023 hit $520 million, which corresponds to the level of last year. I believe that by the end of the year, through joint efforts, we will not only achieve the results of last year, which was a very successful one, but will also outperform them. We have no other way but forward," Roman Golovchenko said.

Today is the third day of the working visit of Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko to the Russian Federation. On 22 November the government delegation is visiting Nizhny Novgorod. The Belarusian head of government attended a ceremony to roll out the first electric bus MiNiN and is currently attending the 18th meeting of the Business Cooperation Council of the Republic of Belarus and Nizhny Novgorod Oblast of the Russian Federation.
