Contracts worth $85 million have been concluded during the official visit of Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko to Nicaragua, BelTA has learned.

“Today is a very important day in the history of our relations. Intensive, hard work of enterprises and government agencies has culminated today with the signing of a big package of agreements and contracts,” said Roman Golovchenko. He called these documents a real breakthrough in bilateral relations.

“The contracts are the key outcome of the official visit of the prime minister of Belarus to Nicaragua and all the negotiations that were held there. The contracts worth $85 million is the first step towards large-scale economic cooperation. This is truly a landmark event! Such large deals have been concluded in Central America for the first time,” the press service of the Belarusian government remarked.

In particular, in line with one of the agreements, the Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus will finance the supply of more than 700 units of Belarusian equipment to Nicaragua.

A general agreement on the provision of export loans was concluded between the governments of the two countries in 2023. The Development Bank and the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit of Nicaragua inked a basic agreement on export financing of Belarusian supplies. Focus on results and prompt resolution of payments and logistics issues have already made it possible to finance the supply of the first batch of Belarusian equipment within the framework of these agreements, the bank noted.

“Today we have advanced to a new level: we have concluded four new loan agreements worth more than $79 million with the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit of Nicaragua to ship over 700 units of Belarusian equipment for various sectors of the Nicaraguan economy,” Chairman of the Board of the Development Bank Sergei Stolyarchuk said while signing the agreements.

In turn, Nicaraguan counterparts showed interest in increasing mutually beneficial cooperation.
