Brest Oblast, Russia’s Tatarstan sign action plan for cooperation 2026-2027

Belarus’ Brest Oblast and Russia’s Tatarstan have signed an action plan for 2026-2027 to implement the agreement between the Brest Oblast Executive Committee and the government of the Republic of Tatarstan on cooperation in trade, economy, science, technology, culture, social and humanitarian matters. The ceremony took place in Brest on 24 May, BelTA has learned.

A delegation from Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan led by Rustam Minnikhanov is on an official visit to Brest Oblast. A meeting was held at the Brest Oblast Executive Committee, during which the parties discussed the development of bilateral relations. The talks were attended by Chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Piotr Parkhomchik and Chairman of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee Alexander Rogozhnik. In particular, a two-year action plan for cooperation between Brest Oblast and Tatarstan was signed. The roadmap outlines specific projects for collaboration. 

 

“We have very good relations with Tatarstan. They gain momentum every year reaching new heights. Brest Oblast has a remarkable economic and financial history with Tatarstan. Between 2021 and 2025, trade nearly doubled” Governor of Brest Oblast Piotr Parkhomchik said. He cited aircraft manufacturing as one of the priorities for cooperation. Also of interest are the agricultural sector, industrial cooperation, and shipbuilding. The Belarusian side is ready to welcome groups of children from Tatarstan to the patriotic center at Brest Fortress. “It is important to maintain the momentum and implement the projects we are discussing. There are many ideas,” he noted. 

Rustam Minnikhanov concurred that the relations between Tatarstan and Brest Oblast are developing in a positive direction. “The most important thing today is the foundation of our relations in all matters. In economy, culture, education, sports - everywhere we have complete mutual understanding and full agreement. We attach great importance to our relations with Belarus. We are not standing still; we are moving forward,” the head of Tatarstan noted. 

The Russian delegation’s visit program, in addition to official meetings and negotiations, includes visits to key tourist attractions and enterprises. Today, representatives of Tatarstan visited Brest Hero Fortress and honored the memory of their fellow countryman - Hero of the Soviet Union Piotr Gavrilov at the Garrison Cemetery. “We are impressed with such a reverent attitude to history. We are very impressed by the city - charming, comfortable for living, well-maintained. The nature is beautiful,” Rustam Minnikhanov said.
