Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Russian Federation Yuri Seliverstov revealed whether Belarus will increase cargo transshipment via Russian ports on the air of the First News TV channel, BelTA has learned

“Undoubtedly, following the restrictions imposed on our capacities and logistics channels linked to the Baltic states, Russian port capacities and infrastructure have become very important for us. Belarusian manufacturers use around 13 ports in Russia. These capacities are growing year by year. Although the percentage is not that large, there is still growth. The prospects are quite significant because the existing capacities will allow more cargo to pass through,” Yuri Seliverstov emphasized.

He noted that increasing the transshipment of Belarusian cargo via Russian ports requires a sufficient number of railcars and appropriate railway capacity. “This is a large set of issues that the head of state has instructed us to resolve. This is being done more or less effectively. New routes are underway. This work is ongoing, and there is scope for cooperation,” Yuri Seliverstov summed up.

In addition, joint production of goods is on the agenda. A new term is being introduced, Union State goods. According to Yuri Seliverstov, the Permanent Committee of the Union State is considering using Union State budget funds to reduce part of the interest rate on loans raised for the production of Union State goods.
