PHOTOfact: highlights of the ‘Memory of the Victory’ concert at the Palace of the Republic

A solemn meeting and a celebration concert dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War took place at the Palace of the Republic in Minsk on 6 May. 

Among the evening's honoured guests was State Secretary of the Union State Sergey Glazyev.

‘Belarus remembers,’ said President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in an emotional speech to the participants of the event. The Head of State reminded that the Republic suffered irreplaceable losses in the past war.

‘But we remember: our heroes have gone so that we, the next generations, would never know the pain of loss and grief. They left so that we could be born. So that we could live. Therefore - Belarus remembers!’, said Alexander Lukashenko.

Six towns such as Kobrin, Rechitsa, Slonim, Senno, Slavgorod and Smolevichi have received ‘For Courage and Fortitude during the Great Patriotic War’ pennants from the President today.

This special evening left no one indifferent.

The best Belarusian artists performed songs that told about the hardships of war, battles, the devotion of soldiers and commanders, partisan life, love for the native land, the value of every life given for the present-day world.

Songs of war, songs of memory and songs of Victory were listened to by the audience while standing practically the whole concert, freezing during the immortal composition of Alexandra Pakhmutova ‘Let Us Bow to the Great Years...’ and singing along to the sparkling medley performed by the little artists of the stage.

And the famous march ‘ The Victory Day’ was sung by everyone that evening.
