PHOTOfact: Easter Great Vespers at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow

11:30, 13 April

On April 12, 2026, the Feast of the Bright Resurrection of Christ, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia celebrated Easter Great Vespers at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow.

By tradition, an ancient altar Gospel from the era of Empress Elizaveta Petrovna was brought out for the Great Vespers. The Gospel was bequeathed by the ever-memorable Metropolitan Pitirim (Nechayev) from the Joseph Volokolamsk Monastery as a gift to the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour for especially solemn festive services. The Gospel is brought out only twice a year: at Great Vespels on the Feast of the Nativity of Christ and at Easter Great Vespels.
