The 4th Festival of Youth Orchestras of the World took place at the Grand Amphitheater of Zaryadye Park in Moscow, under the artistic direction of People's Artist of the USSR and Hero of Labor of the Russian Federation Yuri Bashmet. The event was supported by the Russian Ministry of Culture.

Over the course of just three festival days, nine youth orchestras from around the world performed on the park stage. Each ensemble presented a program highlighting the orchestra's unique strengths and the professionalism of its young musicians. The KYS Youth String Orchestra (Malaysia), the Chamber Orchestra of the Belarusian State Academy of Music, and the Youth Chamber Orchestra of the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory (Vietnam) participated in the festival for the first time.

The All-Russian Youth Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Yuri Bashmet also participated in the festival, performing with a new lineup on the opening day.

The Moscow Children's Orchestra, comprised of 93 musicians from 24 music schools and colleges in the capital, was assembled for the second time.

As per tradition, the World Youth Symphony Orchestra was reassembled specifically for the festival; it performed at the closing ceremony under the baton of maestro Yuri Bashmet. The ensemble performed V.A. Mozart's Concertino for Trombone and Orchestra by F. David, Carl Weber's Concerto for Bassoon and Orchestra, K. Bodrov's "Guide to the Orchestra," and the concert and festival concluded with Ravel's "Bolero."

Joint rehearsals and concert performances strengthen the creative collaboration of young musicians from around the world.
