Belarusian State University trains specialists for the economies of Belarus, Russia, and China across virtually all fields of study, with the exception of medicine and agriculture. Andrei Blokhin, First Vice-Rector of BSU, told this media outlets of the Union State during a press tour, a Soyuz.by correspondent reports.

"BSU’s mission is enshrined in our documents: to always be first. We have consistently held leading positions in terms of the number of students and the number of professors and Doctors of Science, as well as in our contribution to the development of the country’s real economy and social sector," he noted.

BSU is the only university in the country that trains specialists in classical philology, philosophy, mechanics, fundamental physics, nuclear physics and nuclear technologies, chemistry (across all specializations), archival studies and records management, as well as geoinformation technologies, geodesy, and space-based aerial mapping.

In recent years, BSU has established and approved over 20 joint educational programs with universities in Russia, China, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. 6 joint dual-degree programs are currently in place with Russian universities, including Moscow State University, Baltic Federal University, the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, and Belgorod State National Research University.

"Under these programs, students from both the Russian and Belarusian sides undergo joint training and, upon completion, receive a diploma from both BSU and the corresponding Russian university," Andrey Blokhin explained.

The university comprises 20 academic buildings, 6 administrative and service buildings, 2 sports and health complexes, and 10 dormitories. BSU holds over 650 cooperation agreements and memoranda with universities and research organizations across 59 countries. Approximately 30 percent of these agreements are with Russian research organizations and universities, followed by China with 20 percent.

"BSU is a major center for research, education, and innovation. We have 16 faculties, 3 institutes, 6 research institutes, and 2 scientific centers. Our Institute for Nuclear Problems firmly holds first place among all scientific organizations in the republic in terms of citation count and h-index," the First Vice-Rector emphasized.

BSU is the only university to have launched two nanosatellites. The first was launched in 2018 and operated for nearly 6 years — double its expected service life. The second was launched in 2023 and is actively used in the educational process. "It was built entirely by our students and teachers. It is a nanosatellite of purely Belarusian manufacture, something we are proud of," Andrei Blokhin said.

Among the university’s developments are the unique anti-tumor drugs Cisplacel and Temodex, which are used in clinics throughout the republic. "Temodex is patented in 56 countries, and Belarusian doctors have been performing surgeries using our domestically produced drugs for over 5 years," he noted.

Veterinary biopreparations — unique globally and capable of completely eliminating the need for antibiotics — are being produced for the agricultural sector based on developments from the Faculty of Biology. Biopreparations for plant growth stimulation and protection have also been developed and are being manufactured under license agreements at three facilities within the republic. Plans are in place to enter the Russian market next year.

According to leading international rankings, BSU ranks among the top 2 percent of universities worldwide and within the top 600. In the BRICS university rankings, the university secured the 36th position out of 750. Last year, BSU was named one of the 25 trusted partners of China's Ministry of Education.

The university has an enrollment of approximately 25,000 students, nearly 6,000 of whom are foreign nationals — primarily from China. Its workforce totals 6,500 employees, including 2,800 academic staff members, among whom are over 1,300 Candidates of Sciences and more than 300 Doctors of Sciences.

NOTE: From September 29 to October 1, 2026, a press tour is taking place in Belarus for media representatives from the Republic of Belarus, the Russian Federation, and the Union State media outlets, titled "Integration of Science and the Real Economy: A Guarantee of Sustainable Economic Growth for the Union State."

The project is being implemented with the support of the Standing Committee of the Union State and the National Press-Center of the Republic of Belarus.
