State Secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia Grigory Rapota attended the Independence Day celebrations at the Victory Monument in Minsk and wished Happy Independence Day to all Belarusians, BelTA has learned.

“I would like to extend Independence Day greetings to everyone and wish you independence, peace, tranquility and stability. I would also like to wish both Russians and Belarusians prosperity and dynamic economic development. I wish everyone to keep this festive mood even when we are living through difficult times. I wish the Belarusian-Russian relations to continue developing,” he said.

According to Grigory Rapota, Belarus was liberated from the Nazi invaders on 3 July, and the Union State has been doing a lot to preserve the memory of the heroic past and the events of those years. He mentioned a memorial that was inaugurated near the village of Rakovichi, Svetlogorsk District, Gomel Oblast at the place where Operation Bagration began in 1944. This operation resulted in the complete liberation of Belarus, the partial liberation of Poland and the Baltic States from Nazi invaders.
