Construct completion of the Belarusian nuclear power plant is a landmark event for the Union State. Opening the conference, Alexey Kubrin said that almost eight years before, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko had laid a time-capsule at the BelNPP construction site with a message to future generations, thereby giving a start to the construction work.
“We expect the launch of the nuclear power plant in just a couple of weeks. Then, nuclear fuel loading and the so-called stage of nuclear reactor physical launch is to take place. Deadlines are as short as never before. Usually such works (construction of the station – editor’s note) are completed within 10 years, yet we have done it in just 8 years,” said Alexey Kubrin.
He added that the completion of the BelNPP construction work is a landmark event that is bound to contribute to the development of new technologies and the creation of new jobs. The commissioning of the facility will also result in restructuring the entire economic system both in Belarus and in the Union State.
“We are moving to a new stage of improving the energy efficiency of the country’s economy and enhancing the competitiveness of our products. Obviously, we should expect the entire fuel and energy complex of the country to be modernized,” Mr. Kubrin stressed.
He added that thanks to the commissioning of the station, we may implement the projects that require high power costs. For example, the construction of a high-speed railway line that will connect St. Petersburg, Orsha, Pskov, Minsk, Warsaw, Berlin, Hamburg.
We would remind you that the nuclear fuel for the first power unit was delivered to the BelNPP in May 2020. Fuel loading into the first unit of the reactor is to begin in early August. The nuclear unit is almost ready for operation: finishing and landscaping works are now being completed.
The construction of the BelNPP in Ostrovets, Grodno Region is carried out according to the Russian WWER-1200 project. The station will consist of two 1200 MW power units.
