Family is ranked high in the structure of values of the Belarusian youth, Chairman of the Belarusian Committee of Youth Organizations Pavel Alekso told BelTA as he commented on the results of the recent opinion polls.

In September-December 2024, the Belarusian Committee of Youth Organizations teamed up with the Center for Social and Humanitarian Research of Belarusian State University of Economics and the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus to conduct surveys on the preferences of the Belarusian youth. A total of 12,000 young Belarusians were polled in different regions of the country.

According to the surveys, the vast majority of respondents, 70.2%, placed family high in the structure of their values.

“More than 70% of young people prioritize family values. They value a close-knit family with children. This shows that young people are interested in strengthening society, family, and traditional values of the Belarusian nation,” Pavel Alekso said.

According to him, the Belarusian youth has become more mature and sensible. “In different surveys where young people are asked about the time they are ready to start a family, we can often see the youth revealing their preference for creating a family after university graduation, after starting a career to be able to provide for themselves and their children. This demonstrates a positive trend towards social maturity, which is the readiness to create a unit of society, to take responsibility for oneself and one’s family, for having children. This speaks of a mature choice among young people,” Pavel Alekso added.
