BACKGROUND INFORMATION: For the project on major repairs, restoration, reconstruction, and museumification of the Brest Fortress facilities for 2024–2026, 493,888.0 thousand Russian rubles were allocated from the Union State budget. The project provided for the implementation of 11 activities at 11 fortress facilities.
The state customers of the project were the Ministries of Culture of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation. The Ministry of Culture of Belarus acted as the coordinating state customer for the project.

The large‑scale restoration of the Brest Fortress facilities at the “Brest Fortress‑Hero” memorial complex, funded by the Union State under the relevant project (2024–2026), has come to an end.
The project covers 11 objects of the memorial complex and is aimed at preserving the historical authenticity of the Brest Fortress, as well as ensuring the safety of visitors.

The completed works have made it possible to open access to the western part of the citadel, which was previously used as a service area. The major repairs, restoration, and reconstruction of the ruins of the 44th Rifle Regiment, the ruins in the northern part of the Citadel, and the ruins near the Museum of the Defence of the Brest Fortress, among others, have been completed.

In June 2026, the “Sorrow” memorial zone was opened in the north‑western part of the Citadel. Funds for the construction of the memorial were allocated from the Union State budget.
It was noted that, in accordance with the project’s action plan, works at four facilities were completed in 2026 and the facilities have been put into operation.
In 2026, 149,138.9 thousand Russian rubles were spent, which amounts to 97.9 % of the total funds allocated for this period.
