Religious tourism in Belarus is actively developing, attracting the attention of Russians, who admire both Orthodox churches and architecture of the cities. This opinion was expressed by Siarhei Gerasimenia, Deputy Commissioner for Religious and Ethnic Affairs, at a press conference on "Religious tourism in Belarus: current state and prospects of development", reports Soyuz.by.

"We are people who breathe the same air, and at the domestic level this co-operation is active, because in most cases Orthodox Russia comes to Orthodox Belarus, but sees a completely different picture here than it does at home, because here we have unique Orthodox churches. Here we have a combination of temples and architecture of different confessions in one city," said Sergei Gerasimenya.

Co-operation in the field of religion between Belarus and Russia is also developing at the state level. In particular, in September Nizhny Novgorod hosted the Second Patriarchal Sports Games in honour of the Holy Prince Alexander Nevsky, in which the national team of the Republic of Belarus took part for the first time.

‘We turn to history. Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky was married to a Princess of Polotsk. Moreover, they had four children, a large family. Look, what an image. What a good resonance we have, what a good brand and sense can be developed. And among the descendants of Prince Alexander Nevsky there are saints of the Church, glorified by the Church. And perhaps this successful performance, good result of this co-operation will lead to the fact that in our republic these competitions will be held’, - noted Archpriest Pavel Serdyuk.

He also stressed the importance of the spiritual kinship between Belarus and Russia, noting that ‘the spiritual basis of this kinship and unity today is not just a cultural discourse, but our daily bread for life’.
