‘The Russian Academy of Sciences is launching a digital project for the Victory Day,’ the report says.
According to the press service, on the basis of photos and documented materials provided by the RAS archive and the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute of Professor N.E. Zhukovsky, the special project named ‘Academic Science during the Great Patriotic War’ describes the most challenging living and working conditions of scientific staff during the evacuation, as well as the breakthrough inventions of scientists in the field of physics, chemistry, mathematics, materials science and other scientific disciplines, which ensured the advantage of Soviet military equipment in the air, on water and on land.
‘Modern warfare is predominantly a war of knowledge, skills and technology. This was the challenge of the mid-twentieth century, which the Soviet leadership quickly sensed and responded to in a prompt time. Therefore, rational and pragmatic decisions were made, that were needed at that moment and were caused by concern for the country and its prospects’, - noted Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Nikolai Makarov.
The special project reflects the patronage assistance provided by the staff. Besides, particular attention is paid to the organisation of the 220th anniversary celebration of the USSR Academy of Sciences in June 1945 as well as devoted to the veterans - employees of the Presidium.
‘It is planned that the special project will be enhanced and supplemented with new sections, photos, document sources’, - the message says.
