The work with young professionals for the country’s archival sector is carried out on a systematic basis.

This was stated at a press conference at the National Press Center by Oleg Voinov, Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus, as reported by a Soyuz.by correspondent.

“The main training ground for personnel is the Belarusian State University, Faculty of History. Training is carried out in two specialties: records management and historical and archival studies. The selection and training of students begin as early as the first year. Starting today, groups of 20–30 people are undergoing internships at our archival institutions,” the speaker said. Every year, 25–30 young specialists are hired as junior archivists.

Work is also underway with schoolchildren and students. “In the first half of the year, we held more than 1,200 events directly,” Oleg Voinov said. “It is gratifying to note that the ‘Archives for Schools’ campaign has become an additional systemic tool in the country’s educational process.”

According to the department director, working with young people plays an important role in fostering interest in and respect for the historical heritage. He is convinced that it is important not to rest on one’s laurels and to continuously introduce new ways of presenting material.

Belarus has been hosting the international media marathon “No Statute of Limitations: The Unconquered” for four years now, Oleg Voinov recalled. “This is no longer just a competition, but a space, a dialogue, creativity, and joint projects by schoolchildren from Belarus and Russia,” he noted, reminding that this year the media marathon was hosted by Gomel and brought together hundreds of participants.

Overall, the archives’ work to make extensive use of archival documents helps fully meet the public’s information needs through the organization of exhibitions, publications, excursions, film lectures, as well as by providing access to documents via online resources. This transforms archival collections from closed repositories into an accessible source of knowledge and cultural heritage for citizens, the department director emphasized.
