"There are over 5,5 thousand libraries in Belarus, including 2,150 public libraries of the Ministry of Culture. At least 12% of the library's budget is allocated annually for updating the library's collection, ensuring stable updating of the book collection by about 3% per year," the speaker noted.
Last year, 41 million copies of documents, mostly books and brochures (82%), were given to readers. The total collection of libraries in Belarus totals about 48 million copies of documents.
Libraries are actively organizing events for the population, which numbered more than 195,000 last year, and more than 103,000 in the first half of 2025, attracting more than four million visitors. Special attention is paid to attracting young people to reading.
More than 6 thousand librarians work in public libraries, most of whom have special library education.
