New Russian antiviral drug to treat COVID-19 now available in Belarus

A new Russian medicine to treat COVID-19 is now available in the Belpharmatsiya state-run pharmacy network, BelTA informs citing the press service of the Healthcare Ministry.

The antiviral drug Skyvira is produced by the Biokhimik company and is now on sale in all the pharmacies of the state-run pharmacy network. Skyvira is a prescription drug.

It is noted that the medicine contains a combination of active substances nirmatrelvir and ritonavir. These substances target the SARS-CoV-2's main protease.

The Healthcare Ministry added that this medicine will be used to treat patients in an outpatient setting. The medicine will lessen the impact of the virus and prevent hospitalization, speed up recovery and minimize the severity of post-COVID syndrome.
