The Kupala Night Festival in Alexandria is a celebration of Belarusian-Russian friendship. Head of the Belarus President Administration Igor Sergeyenko made the statement during the Kupala Night Festival (Alexandria Gathers Friends) in Alexandria, Shklov District, Mogilev Oblast on 8 July, BelTA has learned.

Igor Sergeyenko said: “In addition to gathering friends the festival grows larger every year. It is the 14th festival on record. I remember perfectly well how it began. It was considerably less pompous initially but thanks to efforts of municipal authorities, Belarusian craftsmen, and artists the celebration attracts more and more people every year. Today about 40,000 people are already enjoying recreation and what is going on.”

According to Igor Sergeyenko, the program of the festival is exceedingly versatile and diverse. A lot of events are taking place at various venues. Guests and participants look forward to the evening concert. However, the Kupala Night Festival has brought together not only Belarusians but their nearest neighbors. There are plenty of Russian delegations. Heads of Russian regions are present, including from Siberia. Representatives of the closest Russian regions – Bryansk Oblast and Smolensk Oblast – have arrived as well. Russian performance groups, craftsmen, and artisans have also come to Alexandria. One could only dream of such broad representation. Particularly in the Year of Peace and Creation.

The head of the Belarus President Administration stressed that the Kupala Night Festival is truly becoming an international event. He said: “It is a celebration of Belarusian-Russian friendship that is taking place in a beautiful place – on the bank of the Dnieper River. I am convinced that today's Alexandria Gathers Friends will leave no one unmoved and people will leave with souvenirs and pleasant impressions.”
