Gosatomnadzor specialists have prepared a review on nuclear and radiation safety for 2024

The State Atomic Energy Committee (Gosatomnadzor) announces the release of an annual review of level of radiation safety in the Republic of Belarus for 2024. This was announced by Deputy head of Gosatomnadzor Grigory Astashko, the correspondent reports Soyuz.by .

According to Grigory Astashko, the review will address key issues related to ensuring nuclear and radiation safety, including legislative development, physical protection, control of nuclear materials, licensing and licensing work, also as scientific support, safety expertise, compliance with international obligations and personnel training.

The review focuses to the work of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (BelNPP) and the scientific institution "Sosny Institute", as well as the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster. In addition, an assessment of the radiation safety of the population from all sources of ionizing radiation will be given.

The review was prepared not only by specialists from Gosatomnadzor, but also by representatives of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, as well as other interested agencies.

Grigory Astashko noted that 2024 was the first year of work under the new law on safety regulation in the use of atomic energy, which entered into force at the end of 2023. Another important event was the completion of the construction and commissioning of the Belarusian NPP.
