Belarus is ready to counter attempts of Western interference in the country's internal affairs, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik said in an interview with RIA Novosti, BelTA has learned.

“Of course, we expect this interference. We have felt it throughout all the election campaigns that have been held in Belarus in recent decades. We see perfectly well the rhetoric that is used by the Western countries. We see very well all the large sanctions packages against our country (so far a total of 3,700 sanctions have been imposed on Belarus),” Sergei Aleinik said.

The minister also took note of the increased militarization on the part of European neighbors and military activity on the borders with Belarus. “Of course, we are well aware that they will not leave us in peace. We will move along this path in a calm and decent manner. We will oppose all the attempts to interfere in our internal affairs. We hope that this line will be supported by the majority of countries of the international community,” he emphasized.

“We sincerely hope that sooner or later our esteemed Western partners, neighbors will come to their senses and listen to the opinions increasingly heard from the people (from public associations, various political analysts), which call for de-escalation and establishment of a dialogue for peaceful settlement of the whole tangle of problems that have accumulated in our region in recent years. We are optimists,” the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs said.
