By the end of 2025, the volume of digitized archival documents in Belarus will exceed 2 million pages. This was announced by Oleg Voinov, Director of the Ministry of Justice's Department of Archives and Records Management, at a press conference marking Archivist's Day, reports a Soyuz.by correspondent.

According to him, the country's archives are actively changing their appearance. New modern archival storage facilities have already been commissioned in four regional centers. And by April 2027, a new state archival complex is planned to open in Minsk, near Partizansky Prospekt.

"It's important to understand that digitizing a document is just a small part of what needs to be done. It still needs to be described. And only then does it begin to come to life," Oleg Voinov emphasized.

The main goal of digitization is to make historical heritage accessible to everyone. Now, to access a document, you don't have to visit an archive in person: you can do so remotely through the open access system and, if necessary, order a copy.

"The archives have been given a serious task: to digitize 100% of the most valuable files in regional archives and at least 45% in national archives within the next five years. To date, just over 14% of such documents have been digitized," Voinov noted.

At the same time, extensive educational efforts are underway. The archives are actively implementing modern technologies, including artificial intelligence—young specialists have already created four videos using it. A series of books for schoolchildren has also been published for the first time, using archival documents to tell the story of Belarusian history in accessible language.

All this systematic work is aimed not only at preserving but also at popularizing historical heritage, fostering patriotism, and combating the falsification of history.
