In the round of Last 16 the Belarusian was to face Russia’s world number 38 Anastasia Potapova but the Russian player announced in the social media that she would not be able to play due to her left arm injury. Aryna Sabalenka will kick off her Stuttgart campaign in the quarterfinal against either Russia’s world number 13 Diana Shnaider or world number 29 Elise Mertens of Belgium who beat Belarus’ world number 111 Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the opener.
The previous edition of the Stuttgart Open was won by Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina. The player is not taking part in this year’s event. The winner of the ongoing tournament will earn €142,600, 500 points and an all-electric Porsche.
