Serbia and Belarus cooperate in all possible areas. However, the most promising one may be the trade and economic area, said Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Serbia to the Republic of Belarus Velko Kovachevich, reports the correspondent of the Union State portal.

The Ambassador of Serbia said that Belarus is interested in exporting industrial products and petrochemicals, tractor and automotive equipment, metal products, lifts and tyres. We are also negotiating the possibility to supply Belarusian trolleybuses and electric buses to Serbia, as well as BelAZ mining equipment. Moreover, we are developing cooperation in banking sector, industry and agriculture.

“The roadmaps for cooperation development even include a separate paragraph related to rendering assistance to Mogilevliftmash when entering the Serbian market. Supplies of Belshina and Mogilevkhimvolokno products to Serbia are being successfully developed. At the moment we are discussing the possibility to import Geely cars to equip the fleet of the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs,” the Ambassador commented.

As a result, in 2019 trade turnover between Serbia and Belarus amounted to about $150 million. According to the diplomat, these are quite moderate indicators, though.

“In all fairness, this is not enough. We are not satisfied with this result. Two years ago bilateral trade made up about $ 200 million. Nevertheless, there is a reason to believe our economic cooperation will grow. I am convinced we can be optimistic about our trade and economic relations,” said Velko Kovachevich.

The Ambassador added that a free trade agreement between the two countries, as well as a free trade agreement between the EEU and Serbia, which was signed in October 2019, can contribute to an increase in bilateral trade.
