The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus to host an international conference dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War

The Press Service of the Academy of Sciences reported that the NASB will host an international scientific-practical conference ‘The Great Victory in the name of peace and creation (to the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War)’ on 6 and 7 May.

Historians from various regions of Russia, as well as from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan will attend the conference. Belarusian historical science will be represented by scientists from more than 50 Belarusian and about 20 foreign organisations.

The plenary meeting is expected to be attended by the highest officials of the country, heads of confessions and representatives of the public associations ‘Belaya Rus’ and ‘Belarusian Fund of Peace’.

The conference will focus on modern approaches to the covering of the events of the Great Patriotic War, issues of international relations, key battles, Nazi occupation regime in Belarus, the activities of collaborationist organisations, the genocide of the Belarusian people, the Soviet partisan movement, the maintenance of historical memory and its memorialisation, the contribution of the Soviet people to the victory over Nazism, as well as the reflection of the war history in education.

Within the framework of the conference, there will be the award ceremony of diplomas to the laureates of the XVIII International Youth Scientific and Practical Conference ‘The Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 in the historical memory of the people’.
