Belarus and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Russia’s Dubna have discussed the future course of their cooperation, BelTA learned from the press service of the State Committee on Science and Technology of Belarus.

A working meeting with a delegation of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) took place at the State Committee on Science and Technology of Belarus. The Belarusian participants included the leadership and representatives of the State Committee on Science and Technology, the Healthcare Ministry, organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB), Belarusian State University, Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics, the Belarusian company Integral, the National Research and Practical Centre for Transfusiology and Medical Biotechnologies.

The meeting was chaired by Plenipotentiary Representative of the Belarusian Council of Ministers to the JINR Committee of Plenipotentiaries of the Governments of the Member States, Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology Denis Korzhitsky. He noted that in March 2026, the Belarusian delegation took part in a session of JINR’s supreme body – the Committee of Plenipotentiaries of the Governments of the Member States. The key element of the visit was talks with the JINR leadership. Special emphasis was placed on the need to put JINR’s research findings into practice in Belarus’ real economy, expand the number of applied developments carried out by the JINR laboratories, and develop technology transfer instruments. The visit of the JINR delegation to Belarus marks another step forward in bilateral cooperation.

The parties discussed further avenues for cooperation. The focus rests on several breakthrough areas: radiation modification of materials, supercomputer technologies, microwave generators, proton therapy and plasmapheresis using track-etched membrane, testing of microcircuits for radiation resistance, and quantum physics.

Following the meeting, the JINR delegation visited the National Centre of Intellectual Property. The staff shared their experience in facilitating the commercialization of intellectual property objects in Belarus. Among other things, the guests were introduced to the opportunities offered by the Intellectual Property Exchange. The platform has been operating since 2011 and has undergone extensive modernization to become an even more effective tool for innovation commercialization. During modernization, a full review of the database was carried out: 753 up-to-date commercial offers are now available on the portal. Key upgrades include a unified search function, personal user accounts, and integration with databases. A direct messaging service between rights holders and interested parties is to be launched in the near future.

According to Director General of the National Centre of Intellectual Property Aleksei Kurman, the mission of the Intellectual Property Exchange project is to create conditions for concluding licensing, assignment and franchising agreements, while ensuring reliable protection of the interests of all market participants. During the meeting, an agreement was reached on the Russian side taking part in this project.

The Joint Institute for Nuclear Research is an international intergovernmental organization established to unite the scientific potential of its member states for the study of fundamental properties of matter. Currently, the institute comprises 15 countries. Its main research areas include particle physics, nuclear physics, and condensed matter physics.
