“Our meeting is held ahead of a significant date - the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Union State Treaty. Over the years we have developed, without exaggeration, a unique integration model. With the full preservation of the sovereignty of Belarus and Russia, necessary conditions have been formed to ensure comfortable life and work of the citizens of the two states and businesses, as well as further development of economic cooperation. We can confidently say that 25 years ago the leaders of the countries made the right choice. The Union State construction now helps Belarus and Russia effectively confront modern challenges and threats, creates the necessary conditions for the further development of our countries, improving the welfare and living standards of the people. These are not empty words. We are approaching the anniversary date with good economic achievements,” Roman Golovchenko said.
Compared with 1999, the level of gross domestic product of the two countries increased significantly: more than 6 times in Belarus, and 10 times in Russia. GDP per capita increased almost 7 times in Belarus, and almost 11 times in Russia.
“Despite the current difficult external conditions, close integration helps us maintain this positive dynamics. In January-August 2024 the growth of gross domestic product in both countries exceeded 4%. Mutual trade keeps improving every year. In January-September 2024, our trade has significantly increased,” the prime minister said.
