CIS Information Council meet in Baku

The 31st meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State News Agencies (CIS Information Council) is taking place in Baku, BelTA has learned.

The agenda includes discussion of cooperation in covering issues of strengthening the CIS as an integration association, development of economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation within the CIS. The focus is on the importance of information support for intergovernmental programs and projects aimed at developing ties in culture, science, youth policy, tourism and sports.

The heads of the CIS state news agencies will also pay special attention to cooperation in the preparations to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War in 2025. The participants of the meeting will present projects aimed at preserving the historical truth about the Great Patriotic War and the feat of the Soviet people, and will discuss joint projects of cooperation with government bodies and regional organizations ahead of the Great Victory anniversary.

The parties express interest in the development of journalistic exchange programs and professional development courses.
The CIS Information Council was established in 1995. It consists of the heads of state news services of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia and Tajikistan. The council is headed by TASS Director General Andrei Kondrashov. The activities of the CIS Information Council are aimed at ensuring interaction and cooperation of the CIS countries in the information field, creating favorable conditions for unimpeded dissemination of information and effective exchange of professional experience, as well as strengthening media partnership.

The CIS Information Council is held on the sidelines of the 6th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue “Dialogue for Peace and Global Security” which has united representatives of more than 110 countries, including Belarus, in Baku. This testifies to the fact that the event is an important international platform for the discussion of intercultural dialogue issues.
