There are plans to open a Consulate General of Belarus in the Russian city of Vladivostok. Governor of Russia’s Primorye Territory Oleg Kozhemyako mentioned it as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Dmitry Krutoi, BELTA has learned.

Oleg Kozhemyako said: “We are happy to hear the intention to open a consulate general instead of an embassy branch here, in Vladivostok. I think it will add more opportunities and will be a momentous event.”

The governor went on saying: “Nowadays Primorye Territory is Russia’s outpost for countries in the Asian Pacific region and your presence here is very significant as well. Cargoes travel from China to Belarus and vice versa via our ports. This trade turnover is of great significance for us as well. It enhances our economy, allows ports and the railway to work. I think you can also look at Primorye Territory as kind of an outpost of the Union State of Belarus and Russia in the Far East.”

Oleg Kozhemyako stated that Primorye Territory strengthens relations with Belarus year after year. “It is also true for food trade. Our residents gladly consume Belarusian food and appreciate its high quality,” he said. The governor also mentioned deliveries of all kinds of machines, vehicles, and equipment for the local manufacturing sector, agriculture, and the housing and utilities industry.

According to the governor, Belarus’ trade with Primorye Territory has increased considerably. It reached RUB27 billion in 2023. “You and I started with less than RUB1 billion back in the day. It is particularly important in the period of sanctions-fueled pressure. We see that the volume of shipments of Belarusian goods has increased substantially. We substituted a lot of imports from unfriendly countries with Belarusian goods,” the governor pointed out.

Oleg Kozhemyako also added that deliveries of MAZ, MTZ, Gomselmash, Amkodor vehicles and machines, the creation of joint ventures with Belarusian enterprises are particularly important for Primorye Territory.
