According to Piotr Parkhomchik, Brest Oblast maintains close cooperation with Russian regions, with particularly strong ties established with some of them. The Belarusian side hopes to build the same level of engagement with Kirov Oblast. “Our relations show positive momentum and growth, but I believe it is not enough. We need to find solutions and strengthen our ties,” said Piotr Parkhomchik. Brest Oblast is interested in comprehensive cooperation. While the economy is a primary focus, education and tourism are also priorities. “To achieve maximum effect, we must also collaborate in science,” the Brest Oblast governor said.
According to Aleksandr Sokolov, Kirov Oblast and Brest Oblast share many similarities, but their differences may also contribute to building mutually beneficial cooperation. “There is a specific interest, which is why we came to Brest Oblast after meeting with the Belarusian president. Our region produces a large quantity of milk, we rank fifth in Russia, but we lack sufficient processing capacity. Savushkin Product, an enterprise from Brest, is highly respected in Russia. Its butter, cheese, yogurt, and cottage cheese are recognized as products of the highest quality. I discussed this with Aleksandr Lukashenko, and he supported the idea. I hope that a Belarusian enterprise will be established in Kirov Oblast,” said Aleksandr Sokolov. The Russian side is prepared to provide an appropriate site with all necessary utilities for the Belarusian processing plant and guarantee milk supplies. The products are intended for residents of the Volga region, the Urals, and Siberia.
“Today we discussed potential cooperation in various sectors: the production of children’s goods, furniture, linen, and greenhouse vegetables. We agreed to organize a business mission of Brest entrepreneurs and will be pleased to host them in Kirov Oblast. We will show and explain everything, and I hope this will lead to new cooperative links,” the governor of the Russian region said.
The meeting also touched upon the patriotic education of youth. Both sides agreed to exchange delegations. In particular, young people from Kirov Oblast have been invited to visit the National Center for Patriotic Youth Education at the Brest Fortress. “The Brest Fortress is a sacred place not only for Belarusians but also for Russians. We will be very pleased to exchange youth groups. Our young people will come here, and residents of Brest Oblast will visit us. We also have much to see and learn from,” Aleksandr Sokolov said.
An agreement was signed today between the Brest Oblast Executive Committee and the Government of Russia’s Kirov Oblast on fostering international and foreign economic ties in trade, economy, science, technology, humanitarian affairs, and socio-cultural fields.
The program for the visit of the Kirov Oblast delegation includes an introduction to the industrial and tourism potential of Brest Oblast.
