“All bureaucratic procedures are complete. The operators have been designated; the procedure has been established. We start next year. We will be able to exchange electricity and meet each other’s needs,” Russia’s Deputy Minister of Energy Yevgeny Grabchak said.

He noted that the issue of a fair price is relevant on the common market. “Belarus has its own electricity generation, just as the central European part of Russia does. Competition will facilitate the choice of a more efficient option for energy supply to the end consumer, will make it possible to choose optimal solutions, to utilize more efficient capacities, and choose supplier on a more economically expedient basis. And the higher the efficiency, the cheaper the electricity is on the market,” Yevgeny Grabchak pointed out.

The deputy minister was also asked how the common electricity market will affect end consumers. "People always ask whether the price will go down? The price probably will not go down, since there is inflation, major modernization, and construction in the energy sector. But there will be no price hikes because the most cost-effective solutions will be selected,” Yevgeny Grabchak noted.
